THE IMPACT AWARD FOR CLIMATE.
We’re looking for inspiring Kiwi’s who are demonstrating leadership and taking action to help reduce carbon emissions and support the transition to a more resilient, low carbon-economy.
THE CONTEXT FOR ACTION.
Urgent action on climate change is one of the United Nation’s Global Goals, and has been called the defining issue of our time. In March 2019, the Executive Director for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Patricia Espanosa, stated that ‘the urgency to address climate change has never been greater.’
New Zealand has an important role to play, and there are various people and organisations taking action and demonstrating leadership on this issue. The Zero Carbon Act is currently being developed by the NZ Government. People and organisations are campaigning for change, working on innovations to reduce emissions and support the transition to a more resilient, low carbon economy.
IS THIS AWARD FOR YOU?
This category is relevant for any young New Zealander who is taking action to make a difference on climate change, and could take various forms.
For example, you might be a young professional advocating for policy change(s) in your workplace or making your organisation carbon-neutral. You might be a student at school or university working to mobilise your peers or the community to put greater pressure on government to take action. You might be working to help your community or iwi understand the impacts of climate change. You might be leading initiatives or creating new innovations that could directly reduce carbon emissions, such as smart-transport or renewable energy alternatives.
WHAT WILL THE JUDGES BE LOOKING FOR?
As well as the general criteria, the Judges will be interested in knowing:
– What difference are you working to make around climate change?
Is it raising awareness? Is it about changing policy, or systems? Is it about reducing emissions?
