THE GLOBAL IMPACT AWARD.
We’re looking for inspiring young New Zealanders who are demonstrating leadership and taking action to support people and communities beyond our shores, especially in developing countries.
THE CONTEXT FOR ACTION.
Our world is more connected than ever before. Yet, there are huge parts of our global community who experience extreme poverty and hardship on a daily basis. The need and opportunity to make a difference beyond Aotearoa New Zealand is significant.
The United Nations outlines 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development to address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. These goals provide a useful and widely accepted framework to think about global impact.
IS THIS AWARD FOR YOU?
Are you working to make a difference beyond our shores? The Global Impact Award recognises inspiring leadership and action for impact – especially for vulnerable people and communities in developing nations.
The scope for this award is broad. You could be working in aid and international development in the Pacific. You could be embedding the UN Global Goals into your enterprise, harnessing consumer purchasing power to create more ethical and sustainable livelihoods for producers in developing nations. You could be working to increase access to basic healthcare or housing in South East Asia. Maybe you started your project here in New Zealand, and are now working to scale up. Your work could be focused on the environment – working with communities to clean up ocean plastic or access to clean affordable energy.
Regardless of what scale – if you think your work is making a global impact we’d love to hear from you!
WHAT WILL THE JUDGES BE LOOKING FOR?
As well as the general criteria, the Judges will be interested in knowing:
– Detail about the project / work that you’re leading, and where it’s happening
– How this work is improving the wellbeing of people and/or planet?
– How do you know it’s making a difference? How do you measure it?
– How is this work addressing the root cause(s) of the problem, and/or working to change the system(s)?
– The degree and scale of impact you’re making – i.e, small, medium, large?
– What’s your role in all of this?
